Great Ness and Little Ness Parish Council meet 10 times a year usually on the first Tuesday of every month, except January and August. Meeting venues tend to alternate between Nesscliffe Village Hall and Little Ness Village Hall.
Please check the agenda for confirmation of the meeting venue as they do tend to change owing to the availability of the Parish Halls.
BECOME A COUNCILLOR - YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Parish Councillors:
Parish councillors work towards improving the well-being of their community. Parish Council's provide services at the most local level and Parish Councillors are well placed to know exactly what is best for their local communities.
If you want to become a councillor and there is a vacancy you must:
- be a British subject, or citizen of the Commonwealth or the EU;
- on the date on which you are nominated, be 18 years of age or over, and be a local government elector for the council area for which you want to stand;
- have occupied, as a landowner or tenent, any land or other premises in the council area for 12 months preceding the date on which you are nominated;
- have worked during that same period in the council area;
- resided in the council area during that 12 month period.
You can also become a councillor if you have lived in the council area, or within 3 miles of it, for the whole of the 12 months preceding the date on which you are nominated.
You do not have to be a member of a political party to stand for election; you can stand as an independent candidate, your Party will guide and support you through the process.
HOW MUCH TIME DOES IT TAKE
Being a Councillor requires commitment. You should attend all the Full Council meetings. Great Ness and Little Ness Parish Council meet once a month except for January and August in the evenings between Nesscliffe and Little Ness Village Halls.
You will be expected to read meeting agendas and associated documents to guide you with important decisions that will make your parish a better place in which to live and work. Being a Councillor can be rewarding and now is an opportunity for you to become part of the decision making process at the most local level.
